The Internationally Educated Physiotherapist (IEP) Exam Preparation program (IEPEP) has been designed to assist Internationally Educated Physiotherapists (IEPs) and Canadian-trained physiotherapists to prepare for, and successfully complete, the written and the practical components of the Canadian Physiotherapy Competency Examination (PCE).
Practical Program
The practical exam preparation program is a self-directed study program that takes place over approximately three months. Registrants must be available to attend three face-to-face events at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, British Columbia). The practical program includes:
Three Face-to-Face Events:
- A Baseline Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE):
- An introductory OSCE consisting of a minimum of 8 x 5 minute stations in a simulated PNE setting. The Baseline OSCE is followed by individual performance reviews with each of the examiners.
- A Clinical Lab Day:
- 3 x 2.5 hour sessions that cover Neuromusculoskeletal, Neurology, Cardiopulmonary-vascular content areas. Each session is led by an experienced clinical tutor in a practical setting to review and practice skills and techniques. An OSCE style approach is used for additional reinforcement of performance requirements in the PNE.
- A Final OSCE:
- A final practice OSCE in a simulated PNE setting consisting of 4 x 10 minute practical only stations, 4 x 5 minute practical stations, plus 4 x 5 minute written stations. The Final OSCE is followed by individual performance reviews with each of the examiners.
An Online Curriculum:
- Access to the IEPEP Written Program online content which includes:
- Five clinical modules with glossaries and study questions;
- An online ‘Resource List of Mentors’ who are available to help participants to practice skills and techniques in preparation for the PNE;
- A link to 23 Virtual patient Cases (multi–media presentations of complex cases)
