Program Content Information

 

Elegebility

In order to be eligible for enrolment in the IEPEP Program IEPs or Canadian re-entry PTs must:

• Have completed credentialing with the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators, and
• Have an anticipated date to sit the Canadian national examinations. 

*Please note that although residency in BC is not essential, B.C. residents will take priority if space is limited.

Program Content

There are two programs that each last for approximately three (3) months each:

• Written Program:     Runs four (4) times per year, on a quarterly basis, and
• Practical Program:   Runs two (2) times per year.

Written Program

 

This is a self-directed study program taking place over a 3 month time period, providing:

1. An On-Line Curriculum containing:

• Five (5) Clinical Modules with glossaries and study questions;
• A chat room for IEPs in each cohort;
• An On-Line Resource List of Mentors who are available to help participants to practice their skills and techniques in preparation for the PNE;
• An initial 40 MCQ Exam (available for the duration of the 3 month program);
• Three (3) MCQ Post Module Exams for the NMSK, Cardiorespiratory and Neurological modules that are time limited;
• An MCQ Exam Skills Module.

2. Two (2) Face-to-face events which include:

• A one-and-a-half day (1 ½) Written Tutorial Workshop which takes place at the UBC Point Grey Campus. Those unable to attend in person can be connected to the workshop through teleconference.
 The Workshop consists of 3 x 3.5 hour sessions that cover NMSK, Cardiorespiratory and Neurology, each session is led by an experienced Tutor using MCQs and Case Studies to review key elements in the respective area of practice;
• A Final 100 MCQ Exam will be held at the UBC Point Grey Campus and will be followed by a group review. IEPs that cannot attend in person can connect by teleconference a post-exam discussion. The exam materials may be couriered to identified invigilators for IEPs in other parts of B.C. or in other provinces. 

 

Practical Program

This practical program includes:

1. Access to the On-Line Program, including:

• Five (5) Clinical Modules with glossaries and study questions;
• A chat room for IEPs in each cohort;
• An On-Line Resource List of Mentors who are available to help participants to practice their skills and techniques in preparation for the PNE;
• A link to 10 Virtual Patient Cases (which are multi-media presentations of complex cases).

2. The following three (3) Practical Events will be held at the UBC Point Grey Campus:

• A Practice OSCE Exam:
A Baseline, introductory OSCE consisting of 8 x 5 minute stations in a simulated PNE setting, followed by an individual performance review with each of the 8 examiners.

• A Clinical Lab Day:
A full day event at which clinical tutors in the 3 main areas of practice: NMSK, Cardiorespiratory and Neurology. The tutors work with participants in a practical setting at UBC to review and practice skills and techniques using an OSCE format approach for additional reinforcement of performance requirements in the PNE.

• A Final OSCE:
Consisting of 8 stations in a simulated PNE setting, which includes:
 4 x 10 minute practical stations;
 4 x 5 minute practical plus 4 x 5 minute written component stations; and
 An individual performance review with each of the 8 examiners.
